Hi new wakeofgods members,
If you just joined, you may have missed the information about signing up for the
3.58f script update beta test. You need to email me at fnord100@... and
I'll send you the URL and log in information to get the file.
Here's the full info.:
We're ready to begin the beta test of the official 3.58f script update. We
expect it to last approximately 2-4 weeks.
This update corrects a number of script bugs, makes a few changes, and enhances
a few scripts with small additions. Note that hard-coded changes are not changed
at all and cannot be until 3.59.
The WoG Options file is also updated to reflect changes and includes spell
banning for two more spells: Animate Dead and Resurrection (together with the
updated script25.erm file).
If you wish to beta test you must send me an email: fnord100@...
and I will give you the URL, login and password to download the update. It's
open to all wakeofgods members who apply, but we're doing it this way so we can
keep track of how many people are testing and who they are. (I've read that
sometimes if you view messages on the Web it cuts off email addresses, so for
those can't read the address above, it's: fnord100(at)yahoo(dot)ca
Please do NOT pass out the URL, login, password or updated files and do NOT post
them in forums or anywhere else. If you have friends who wish to test with their
own copies, ask them to join the wakeofgods group too. This will be of benefit
to everyone and will make our lives easier. Thank you.
Once you get the update, please follow the instructions below for installation
and testing.

Instructions for Installing 3.58f Script Updates - August 29, 2005
These instructions must be followed to install the script updates:
(Note: Failure to follow steps 5 and 6 will result in script errors!)
** IMPORTANT: Script Graphics will be moved, including the optional custom
battlefield images. If you use the Custom Battlefields, you MUST install them
BEFORE performing the sort_graphics.wog update. **
1. Make a backup of your Data\s folder. (Optional but HIGHLY recommended!)
2. Unzip 3.58f_script_updates.zip to an empty folder.
3. Copy/paste all .erm and .ert files to your DATAS\S folder, replacing the
files currently there.
4. Copy/paste the "Post 3.58f changes and bug fixes.txt" file to DATA\S as
well.
5. Copy/paste the "Zsetup01.txt" file to the DATA folder (NOT Data\s).
6. Copy/paste the "sort_graphics.wog" file to the UPDATE folder.
7. Run h3wupd.exe (from the main Heroes folder). Choose language. You should
see one option (leave it checked) and click Install.
8. That's it. Run WoG and enjoy the game. Changes and corrections can be found
in the "Post 3.58f changes and bug fixes.txt" file.
9. IMPORTANT USER-INTERFACE CHANGE for MITHRIL ENHANCEMENTS: 1) To place a
special terrain around a town, you must Ctrl-click on the town entrance instead
of right-clicking. 2) Right-clicking on the Kingdom Overview displays your
current Mithril only while you hold the mouse button down. 3) To view the
Mithril Price List, you must hold down Ctrl and press the 'K' key on your
keyboard.
10. There will likely be additional updates during the beta testing. We'll keep
you posted.
TESTING GUIDELINES AND NOTES:
Once you have successfully installed the 3.58f script updates, please follow
these guidelines for testing and feedback:
1. Please note that the primary reason for beta testing this script update is
for verifying that: i) the script bugs we say are fixed are in fact fixed. ii)
we haven't introduced any new script bugs. iii) we haven't missed any bugs
(although we almost certainly have--and it may not be possible to fix them ALL
at this time).
2. Also note that this script update is for single player corrections ONLY.
While a few script changes may help MP games, they have not been 100% verified
at this time, nor are they documented in the changes file. MP testing and fixing
is a separate issue and will be dealt with separately.
3. There are some hard-coded bugs in 3.58f. These cannot be addressed in a
script update (obviously) but many (or all) will be fixed in the next WoG
release (3.59). If you report known hard-coded bugs, we'll let you know that
it's a hard-coded bug that we know about already.
4. Please verify that you're NOT using any custom WoGify scripts when you
test. You should not have any scripts in your Data\s folder numbered above
script77.erm. If you do, please move them elsewhere for the duration of the
test.
5. Review the "Post 3.58f changes and bug fixes.txt" file and make a note to
try out at least a few of the changes or corrections.
6. Choose a variety of options when testing. As usual, we do not recommend
enabling all options because this usually results in a pretty crazy game.
7. Play a random wogified map *or* a fairly standard map (perhaps one from the
CD). While you CAN try with a custom map, as before, many carefully crafted
custom maps may be "damaged" by WoGification. Whatever you do, DO not WoGify a
map with custom WoG scripts!!
8. Please send all bug reports to the group message list with the subject:
*Bug Report: 'bug' * where 'bug' is the specific bug that you're reporting. This
will make it easier for us to see to identify bug messages. Please keep the part
after the colon brief and explain in more detail in the message body.
Example: Subject: *Bug Report: Living Scrolls*
9. The body of the bug report message should explain: i) the nature of the
bug, ii) where or when you encountered it, iii) if it's reproducible with a
save, iv) if it's reproducible without a save (describe how to reproduce it), v)
if you have a save game or other information, and vi) any other helpful
information you can think of.
10. Please do not send save game files or error pictures unless requested, but
do keep them handy on your hard drive and let us know you have them. We
recommend putting them in a separate folder so you don't lose them.
